Stop telling yourself your business idea isn't good enough. In this game-changing episode, Rachel destroys the myth that you need a revolutionary concept to build a profitable side business alongside your network marketing empire. If you've ever had that nagging thought—"What if I could make money doing THIS?"—but talked yourself out of it because it seemed too simple or someone else was already doing it, this episode is your wake-up call. Rachel shares why simple ideas crush complex ones every time and why YOUR unique perspective is the secret sauce that makes any idea profitable.

Key Takeaways

Simple beats complex every single time - If you can't explain your idea in one sentence, it's too complicated. The most successful businesses solve problems simply and clearly, not with overly complex systems that confuse potential customers.

Your experience combination is your competitive advantage - You're not just teaching confidence—you're teaching confidence to introverted moms of toddlers. Your specific life experiences create a unique perspective that speaks directly to people in your exact situation.

People buy transformation from someone they trust, not just information - Starbucks didn't invent coffee, Uber didn't invent transportation, and Amazon didn't invent retail. They just made existing solutions better and more accessible through their unique approach.

Stop comparing your inside to everyone else's outside - Those polished courses and programs you see didn't start that way. You're seeing the end result, not the messy beginning or the failures along the way.

Your personality and delivery method IS your differentiator - It's not what you're teaching that matters most—it's who you are as you teach it. Your story, humor, authenticity, and way of connecting make your idea valuable.

The world needs more real people, not perfect experts - People are craving authentic guides who've walked the path, made the mistakes, and can help others avoid the same pitfalls while creating real transformation.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Direct Sellers Podcast, the podcast for direct sellers who are ready to get uncomfortable, build their business and grow a team while changing the face of the direct sales industry. I'm your host, rachel Perry. Join me as we get real and talk about all the things you need to kick some serious direct sales booty From overcoming limiting beliefs to sharing the exact strategies you need to attract the right people who become customers and beg to join your team. I've got you covered, girl. I'm going to be your new BFF when it comes to balancing life and kids while building your direct sales business with poise, peace of mind and, of course, a good set of fake eyelashes. Let's get started. Welcome back to another episode of the Direct Sellers Podcast. I'm your host, rachel Perry, and today we're diving in to kind of the idea that you're not enough or your ideas are not enough. I just I want to talk about this because I have a feeling it might be holding you back, and so I just wanted to dive into this, and the way it all came up is crazy. Also, as we know, it's summertime, so my kids are home and even though I've asked them to be quiet, they're still kind of loud. So and they're teenagers. Okay, it's not like I have little kids running around, so I just said that as a disclaimer. If you hear it, I hope it's quiet in here, but we all know what can happen when kids are home for the summer.

Speaker 1:

Alright, so I was at a high level mastermind event this week, which was such a gift, because a friend called and she said hey, my friend is hosting a high level mastermind event in, like Alexandria, which is like 30 minutes away. Do you want to come with me, totally free? And I was like, yes, ma'am, I do, because y'all that was a gift. That was a gift. And I was talking to someone. She was asking me about my business and I was telling her and she said, so, your ideal person, the people that you work with, have an idea, have an idea for something beyond their direct sales business, beyond their network marketing business. And I said yes, and she said, okay, but they don't feel sure of themselves. And she said, okay, but they don't feel sure of themselves. And I said, yeah, exactly, they don't feel like their idea has legs to stand on. And that's what gave me an idea for this podcast episode.

Speaker 1:

So maybe you have an idea, maybe it's for a digital product, maybe it's for a coaching program, maybe it's for something completely like off the wall Like maybe you're like I don't know if this has legs, I don't know if it has legs, but it's. It's kind of there in the back of your mind because you just you feel like, you feel like it's something right. But then you stop like you get excited about thinking about it and you're like, oh, wouldn't it be great if, wouldn't it be great if I could make money doing this? But you stop thinking about it because you start getting in your head. Maybe you think, no, I'm sure that's. No one would be interested in that. Or somebody else is already doing it and I'm sure they're better, or it's not, it's not enough Right, it's too simple. Why would anyone pay for this? Or like, can I really make money doing something like this? And so then you convince yourself that your idea really isn't good enough. So maybe you abandon it completely, or you just keep improving it in your mind forever without ever actually doing it.

Speaker 1:

But here's what I want you to understand this idea for something else, something in addition to your network marketing business doesn't need to be revolutionary. It doesn't need to be unique or perfect to be valuable. Your idea is enough, because you are enough. And today we're going to talk about why simple ideas often work better than complex ones and why your unique perspective matters more than your unique concept and, most importantly, why you, my friends, are the missing ingredient that makes your idea valuable. So here's what I want to start by saying. I want to destroy the idea, or the myth that you need to be completely original. Never been done before. That's the idea that you need in order to be successful, and that's so untrue because we hear this a lot, I think, in the network marketing industry like oh, it's not saturated, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker 1:

But here's the thing, you guys. Let's use Starbucks as an example. Starbucks didn't invent coffee, they just made it better and more accessible. That's the key more accessible, more exciting, more fun. Right, I don't even drink coffee, but it's such a good point. Uber didn't invent the car, didn't invent transportation, they just made it more convenient. Amazon didn't invent retail, they just made it more convenient. Amazon didn't invent retail, they just made it easier. And the same is true in the digital business world.

Speaker 1:

Most successful coaches aren't teaching anything revolutionary. They're teaching the same principles that are being taught by many, many different people, but they're teaching it in their own way. You know course creators, people who are creating courses they're not sharing necessarily brand new information. They're packaging existing knowledge in a way that resonates with their specific audience. Here's the thing.

Speaker 1:

I think we fall into this idea that we have to have an original idea. We have to be original because we're comparing our inside to everyone else's outside. Yes, ma'am, yes, ma'am, hi me, right. We see other people's polished courses or other people's programs and we think, oh, they've literally thought of everything. Like there is really nothing left for me to add. Like that I couldn't do something like that because we don't see their journey, we don't see their failures, we don't see their simple beginnings. We also undervalue our perspective. So you might think, oh, you know, there's nothing special about me, or everyone already knows this, or it's so obvious to everyone.

Speaker 1:

But the thing is, is your way of explaining something might be exactly what someone needs to hear and how they need to hear it? Do you ever, if you're a mom, have you ever had that? Or not even a mom? Like, maybe with your downline, you've told them things over and over again, like, okay, you know, it's all about connections, it's all about connections. And then they go to a conference or something and someone says the same exact thing you did and it's like revolutionary for them. They're like, oh my gosh, finally things have clicked. And you're like I've literally been telling you that forever. It's just because you weren't the person to they, weren't ready to hear it or you weren't the person to tell them right, they resonated with someone else.

Speaker 1:

It's the same for you and your idea. We're so afraid of judgment, like we're so afraid of this idea that we have Okay. And let's just say like, even if you're like I've never had an idea for a business, then this might not be super helpful, but if you ever have had an idea like I would love to do what if I could make money doing this, I want you to encourage you that that it doesn't matter what people think, okay, and I, I, I think we all need to be validated in many ways. Well, we feel like we need to be validated in many ways and often, looking within ourselves, for that validation is hard and challenging. So we look to other people to tell us that it's okay, but, on that same note, we also think other people are going to judge us for it, right. But here's what matters. Here's what really matters.

Speaker 1:

It's not your idea, it's not whether or not there are other people who are doing the same thing, it's not whether it's complex, it's not whether or not you've developed a whole system to accomplishing something, it's not whether it's impressive, but whether or not it's effective. Your idea doesn't need to change the world. It just needs to change someone's day, someone's week, someone's situation right. It's why direct sales is so powerful, because it really can change someone's life right, even just being able to make $500 a month. Simple ideas are actually so much better than complex ones because simple ideas are easier to understand. Someone can immediately grasp what you're offering and how it's gonna help them, and they're gonna be more likely to buy because they understand it.

Speaker 1:

When things are complex, what do we do? When things are confusing or there's just so much involved, our brains stop thinking right, I do, I shut down, I'm like that is no, like I'm out, right. But simple ideas are also really so much easier to explain. If you can't explain your idea in one sentence, it's too complicated. And listen, all of this can be applied to your direct sales business too. Here's an example of something that is really clear, okay? Well, no, let's start with something that's really not clear. So if I were to say I help, I teach comprehensive digital marketing strategies for the time constrained female entrepreneurs who are also trying to juggle life and business, Like, did you stop listening? Because I stopped listening to myself. But if you say I help busy moms create 30 days of social media content in two hours or less, that's easy, right? Simple is better. Simple ideas are also easier to deliver.

Speaker 1:

I have been so guilty of this because you get so excited about what you want to create and you just keep adding things, and then it gets so complex you can't even implement everything. Simple ideas will evolve. You can always add complexity later. You just need to start, and the simpler the better. Now, here's why I want you to understand why your idea is super, super special. Because you're super, super special, okay, but this is why I want you to really listen to your intuition, your gut, your heart, whatever you want to say, because you have a unique combination of experiences, right.

Speaker 1:

So let's take I'm going to use the example of confidence, for example. Like teaching confidence, that is really not a great business idea, and here's why Because people don't necessarily buy confidence. Now you may be teaching it. I'm not going to go off on a tangent here. You may. You know what I'm going to stop myself right here. We're just. This is what I do. Y'all. I can just go on tangents and I'm trying really hard to not do that, so we're just going to. If you want more information on what I was going to say, reach out okay. But here's the thing your experience is unique to you. So let's say you're, you've decided you want to help people build their confidence. You're not going to be the only person teaching that, but you might be the only person who's teaching confidence to introverted moms of toddlers.

Speaker 1:

Your specific combination of experiences creates a unique perspective and a unique way of sharing that and teaching that. You also have a unique way of explaining things right. The way you explain things is your way. You also have a unique personality. Your personality is like no other. Sure, you may have similarities, but that's not so.

Speaker 1:

Let's take me for an example the way I teach and coach. I connect deeply with my clients. I understand them so well. I get a lot of. I have a lot of intuition, and so I just sort of I have belief for all of my clients until they can believe themselves.

Speaker 1:

There are other people who teach exactly what I do. There are bigger names who teach exactly what I do, but people come to me because they connect to me. Right, I teach with humor. I, I, I'm authentic, I'm willing to get vulnerable. I, I am able to give you tough love, but also in a loving way. People like that. Now, are there people that don't like that? Yes, and they're not my clients. Right, you are unique and you have so much to offer.

Speaker 1:

Just because of the journey you've been down, the way you deliver things, your unique struggles that you've overcome, your audience is unique. Here's another example. So there are thousands of time management courses out there, but if you're a network marketer who's figured out how to build a business while working full-time and raising your kids, your time management course is unique because it's specifically for people in your exact situation. So, while it's not necessarily a revolutionary idea, the application is because it's it's their perspective, is coming from you, right? It's not what you're teaching, it's who you are as you teach it, it's your story, your personality, your specific experiences, your way of connecting with people. That's what makes your idea valuable, because people don't just buy information. They buy transformation from someone that they trust, from someone that they connect with, and the people that you're meant to work with will connect with you, with your unique way of guiding them.

Speaker 1:

So how often have you felt yourself be like, well, I don't think it's good enough, or I'm not good enough, or whatever? Here's the thing, guys you are good enough. You're good enough because you are just existing. Your idea is good enough because, like I said, it doesn't have to be super revolutionary. You are unique enough in your skills that it's already different. Your idea isn't just about the content or the concept. It's literally about you as the person delivering it.

Speaker 1:

So I mentioned earlier that I went to this high level mastermind event yesterday. I met someone there named Allison, and Allison she helps faith based entrepreneurs connect with their soul. Basically, it's a very intuitive way of growing their business and she's just a light. But she was telling me that she was actually with Pampered Chef originally. She was with them for 13 years actually and she started feeling like she had grown out of it a little bit. And I definitely felt like this, and maybe you have felt this at times where you're like, you know, I just feel like there's more, or I'm kind of tired of this, or showing up is getting kind of old, like I'm kind of bored, or whatever it is. She had that feeling. In fact, she found herself thinking like could I actually make money with this energy idea? Like intuition idea I have? Like no, I know, I don't think so. I mean that's so. Is it even something? Is it really valuable enough? Like are people really going to buy it? But guess what she did? And they do buy it and she's a very successful entrepreneur. Like seven figures, okay, people don't just buy what you're selling, they buy you as their guide. Allison is this vibrant, she was pure light. I was drawn to her immediately when I walked into the room and I think that's why she's successful, because that's what makes her her, that's her unique perspective right.

Speaker 1:

Your story makes your idea relatable. Your personality makes your idea memorable. Your specific experience gives you credibility and authority. Your current journey, it's authenticity. It's not the idea. That's the problem, my friend. The idea is not believing that you are enough to make the idea valuable.

Speaker 1:

Listen, we all doubt ourselves at one point or another. We all do. It's just life. My encouragement to you today is to stop the doubt. It's to fight through that doubt and to hear my voice when I say you are enough, your idea is enough. Your unique way of doing life, your unique way of teaching, your unique way of showing up your perspective all the things are unique. Listen, the world doesn't need another perfect expert. The world doesn't need another certified coach. It needs more real people who are willing to share what they've learned. It takes real people who are willing to help others avoid the mistakes that they made, and it takes real people to guide people through the transformations that they've already experienced.

Speaker 1:

Listen, you know me. I've been in business for a very long time, but it took me a very, very long time to do what lit me up, and that is helping former and current network marketers step into that higher version of themselves which is building a second stream of income, building something of their own. That's my passion and I ran from that for so long because you know it was hard. It was hard in my mind to really connect the dots, but I didn't quit, I didn't stop and I don't want you to stop. I don't want you to just give up. I don't want you to give up before you even start.

Speaker 1:

Trust your instincts, but listen, not your doubt, not your unbelief. I want you to give yourself permission to be imperfect, but I want you to tell yourself that your idea, it will work. It will work and I'm holding that space for you, a belief in you. If you don't believe in yourself right now, just know that I'm holding that space for you because I do believe and I know that it will work. Okay, your idea is waiting for you to believe in it, but, more importantly, your idea is waiting for you to believe in yourself, because your idea is enough and you are enough to make it happen. And I am here to help you along the way, because you know what. This is my passion and this is my idea, and this is how I feel that this is when I feel the most aligned, is when I help you realize your ideas and turn them and make them into profit. Yes, ma'am, yes, ma'am, I said it you can make money from your ideas.

Speaker 1:
