Feeling stuck thinking you have "nothing to offer" beyond your network marketing business? Think again! In this game-changing episode, Rachel Perry calls BS on the lies we tell ourselves about our expertise and reveals the goldmine of skills you've been building without even realizing it. If you're ready to discover your secret 5K superpower and turn your network marketing experience into an additional income stream, this heart-to-heart conversation will completely shift how you see your own value.

Key Takeaways

  • Your experience IS your certification - You don't need formal degrees or certifications to monetize your expertise. The classroom of real-world experience has taught you more than any textbook ever could.
  • Every struggle you've overcome is expertise - Your journey from overwhelmed to organized, from fearful to confident, from broke to successful is incredibly valuable to someone just starting that same path.
  • Network marketers are secret skill-building machines - You've developed expertise in confidence building, social media mastery, time management, leadership, sales psychology, and personal development that people pay thousands for.
  • Stop comparing your inside to everyone else's outside - Those "overnight successes" you admire had messy beginnings, failures, and learning curves too. What feels easy to you now feels impossible to someone else.
  • You just need to be a few steps ahead - You don't need to be the world's leading expert. You just need to be willing to turn around and help someone climb the mountain you've already conquered.
  • Your transformation story is your goldmine - The person you were 3 years ago versus who you are now represents a journey someone else desperately wants to take.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Direct Sellers Podcast, the podcast for direct sellers who are ready to get uncomfortable, build their business and grow a team while changing the face of the direct sales industry. I'm your host, rachel Perry. Join me as we get real and talk about all the things you need to kick some serious direct sales booty, from overcoming limiting beliefs to sharing the exact strategies you need to attract the right people who become customers and beg to join your team. I've got you covered, girl. I'm going to be your new BFF when it comes to balancing life and kids while building your direct sales business with poise, peace of mind and, of course, a good set of fake eyelashes. Let's get started. Hello, my friends, welcome back to another episode of the Direct Sellers Podcast. I'm your host, rachel Perry, and I am so happy to be back here for another week. I hope you guys had a great 4th of July. If you're in the US, I hope you had a great Canada Day, if you're in Canada, and if you're listening from somewhere else, I hope you're just enjoying life. I hope you are enjoying the summer. Okay, so listen. Today we're going to talk about. We're going to have a heart to heart. Okay, so listen. Today we're going to talk about. We're going to have a heart to heart. Okay, we're going to have a heart to heart about something that I'm seeing a lot in this industry, the direct sales industry.

Speaker 1:

A lot of you are starting to think I would really like to have another stream of income. Some of you work full time and your network marketing income is on the side. That's kind of your side gig. But you're thinking you know what I'm either want to retire from my nine to five or I just want to quit and I'm seeing that my network marketing business isn't necessarily as a sure thing as it used to be. Or maybe you're just noticing a change because your income, your commission checks, really haven't been what they used to be. Or maybe you're just kind of getting tired of it and you want to do something else and you want something of your own. But some of the thoughts that might be going through your head are things like well, I'm not an expert at anything, or I don't have any special skills to teach. Or who am I to charge money for something that I have right, that I know. I'm just a network marketer. I don't know enough about anything else.

Speaker 1:

You guys have heard my story about how I kind of went through that myself just a few months ago. Like what do I have to offer? Hi, rachel, you have built a multimillion dollar company. You've built a six figure company. Like you, have many skills to offer.

Speaker 1:

But the thing is, is y'all we tell ourselves these lies, but we're going to stop ourselves from doing that because it's complete BS. Let's talk about you. You have been developing expertise for years. You have skills that people desperately want to learn. You've overcome challenges that others are still struggling with. You even have knowledge that could actually save someone months or even years of trial and error. And today we're going to unpack all of that expertise you've been building without even realizing it. We're going to talk about why you can't see your own value and, most importantly, how to start monetizing what you already know.

Speaker 1:

Because the truth is, my friend, your biggest obstacle is not your lack of expertise. It's not that you don't have anything to offer. Your biggest obstacle is that you're not recognizing what you have to offer. So let me tell you why this happens. Network marketers aren't. A lot of times the ladies that I'm working with have a hard time seeing where they shine, because what happens is, once you're able to see where you shine. Once you understand it, you can start to shift it. I have to say that I think one of the problems is that you're used to selling someone else's products and someone else's system. You've been trained to talk about your company, the plan, all the things, but you've never had to position yourself as the expert because the company was the expert or your upline was the expert right.

Speaker 1:

Another thing you may think that being an expert in something means that you have to have certain certifications or a degree or years of formal training, things like that. It's not true. Some of the most successful coaches and course creators out there have no formal training, but they do have experience and results. I have to tell you, when I was a teacher, I went to school to become a teacher. I went to four years of school and then I did a master's, but do you know where I learned the most? It was in the classroom. It was doing the thing that I was learning to do. Okay. So I'm here to tell you that your experience is your authority. It is your certification, okay, the next reason it's hard to see where you shine is that you've been in sort of this learning mode for so long.

Speaker 1:

You're constantly learning from your upline. You're going to trainings, you're reading personal development books, you're listening to podcasts. When you're always learning, it's hard to see that you also have something to teach. Maybe you compare your inside to everyone else's outside so you see other people's amazing things, because what happens is a lot of the leaders in the network marketing industry have built things of their own. They've built digital businesses of their own, and you may see that and think I could never do that, but the thing is is you don't see their messing beginnings. You don't see their failures. You don't see their learning curve. You just see their now. And what feels easy to you, my friends, feels impossible to someone else. So the things that you do naturally, like showing up on social media consistently or having conversations with strangers or bouncing back from the nose, they may feel normal to you, but to someone who's never done that, or for someone who has different, is at a different stage in their direct sales business, those are huge, intimidating skills, and it may not even be in their direct sales business, it may just be in whatever you can teach.

Speaker 1:

The thing is is you don't have to value your own transformation right, or you don't value your own transformation. You think, oh you know, I just I used to not be as confident and now I am, or I just learned to manage my time better. But what you don't realize is that your journey from not being confident to being confident, or from being overwhelmed to having your whole system organized, or from having so much doubt about yourself and whether you could do it, to actually believing that you can that's incredibly valuable to someone else who's at the beginning of that journey. And here's what I want you to understand. Every struggle you've overcome is expertise. Every skill you've developed is valuable. Every transformation you've experienced is something someone else desperately wants to achieve. I just want you to take a moment to hear that Every struggle you've overcome is expertise. Every skill that you've developed is valuable, and every transformation you've experienced is something someone else desperately wants to achieve.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about this expertise. Let's talk about the hidden expertise. I've been calling it your secret 5K superpower. So what is that secret, that hidden superpower that you have that can translate into an additional 5 to 10K a month? Let's talk about confidence and mindset work. You've had to overcome fears about talking to people, sharing products, putting yourself out there. But so many things right. You've worked on your money mindset. You've worked through beliefs about what's possible, your self-worth that's literally what coaches charge thousands of dollars to help people with.

Speaker 1:

Or maybe you love having conversations with strangers. I talked to some girls in my Expand program today and they are great at having conversations with strangers. I talked to some girls in my expand program today and they are great at having conversations. They know how to build rapport. They know how to handle objections. They know how to close sales. They know how to not be pushy. They understand the psychology of why people buy and how to present solutions to problems. Those are incredible business skills.

Speaker 1:

Maybe you're more of like you kind of fall in love with the social media piece, so maybe you've learned how to show up consistently. You create content that gets engagement. You've built an audience. Maybe you are a great storyteller. Guess what Social media managers can charge like 2000 plus per month per client. Maybe time management and productivity is more your jam. So maybe you figured out how to build a business while managing a family. Or maybe you figured out how to build a team and build a business while still working your full-time job. You've learned to prioritize. You've learned to batch. You've learned how to make the most of your limited time. That's a skill that you can charge for. Seriously, you can build a business around that.

Speaker 1:

What about all the personal development and growth that you've done? You can read the books, you've done the inner work, you've learned to push through discomfort and you've learned how to take action despite your fear. I hope that my students can say that, because that's what I really really work on. But you understand what it takes to change habits, shift mindset and create lasting transformation. And that, my friends, is monetizable Literally.

Speaker 1:

If you have read personal, like all the books that you've read, all the podcasts that you've listened to, all the trainings that you've purchased, guys, you're building expertise. I could go literally. I could go on and on. I'm going to do a couple more, but I just want you to understand, like you do have expertise that you just don't realize yet. Maybe you have a great team, maybe you are feeling so proud of what you've built and, by the way, if you are a leader, I really am going to encourage you to lean into building another income stream of your own, because you have the most to lose if something happens within your company, right, like if your company suddenly changes their compensation plan or they decide to just become affiliates instead of like network marketing or MLM, like you do have the most to lose. So it's most important for you to build up something else. But maybe, guys, I cannot even tell you if you have built a big team, a successful team, even if they're not making as much as they used to. That is an incredible skill that people will pay for. You've developed these coaching skills without even realizing it, y'all. I'm serious. Like this list could go on and on, and on, and on and on. You're not just a network marketer. You are someone who has developed so many skills, so many skills that covers so many areas, and I just want you to understand that you do have so much to offer.

Speaker 1:

Let me give you some examples. Like you've heard my story. I was a teacher. I spent years in network marketing. I built my team. I built my confidence. I learned how to show up consistently. I learned how to do things that I even when I was scared. I learned how to handle rejection right or how to build relationships. I learned how to build a digital business. I learned all on my own how to do that, and now I help network marketers do the same. I help network marketers go down that same path that I went down building their network marketing business while also building an additional stream of income. The journey that I took from struggling network marketer to where I am now y'all that's expertise.

Speaker 1:

Let's talk about Alicia. Alicia is one of my expand students. She was a top leader in her company for a long time. She developed amazing skills in leadership, team building, social media, business management and now she runs a boutique. She also manages social media accounts for two different businesses, while she's still building her network marketing business. And the reason she's able to do that is because she learned all these skills. She is a retired teacher and she was like listen, I'm retiring but I'm not dead yet. She didn't say that, I just said that. But the thing is is she's like I still got lots of life to live and I still have skills, like it's time for me to make some money and that's what she's doing. And it's amazing.

Speaker 1:

Neither one of us positioned ourselves as the world's leading expert in anything, but we recognize the skills that we have, the transformations that we went through, and we recognize that we had, you know, skills that were of value to other people. So here's what you need to understand you don't need to be the best in the world, you don't need to be the best in your company. You don't need to be the best at anything. You just need to be a few steps ahead of someone else and willing to turn around and help them up, because someone out there is struggling with something that you've already figured out. Someone is afraid of something you've already overcome. There's someone out there and more than one someone who wants to become the person you've already become. That's your expertise and that's your opportunity. So maybe you're listening and you're like this is great and I'll rage, but how do I even know, where do I even start to figure out what skills I could turn into an extra stream of income?

Speaker 1:

So I want you to look at your transformation story. Where were you three years ago versus who you are now? I have a student in my expand program who, when she started working with me, she was just starting over. She was kind of starting her business again. So, basically, from scratch, fast forward. We think it's four years, three or four years. She's now got ranked up many times. She's going to conference with a team. She's taking 10 of her leaders with her. She has transformed. That journey is incredibly valuable to someone who's still at the beginning. How did she change it? What changed? What did she do?

Speaker 1:

Okay, I want you to think about what people ask you for help with. Like, do friends come to you for advice about confidence, maybe. Or do they come to you for advice on how to organize? Or do they come to you for advice on how to like time management? Or do they come and ask you for advice on relationships or social media? Or like what is it? Things that people naturally ask you about are clues to your expertise.

Speaker 1:

Also, consider what feels easy to you now but used to be hard. I mean, you can use it as this is an example, but you know, when you first start working out, you can't lift as heavy as after a year of working out, and that's the same for you. What is easy for you now, but used to be really hard? What do you do now? Without thinking? And it used to be something that you would like. Oh my gosh, I'm like obsessed over this.

Speaker 1:

For me, it's like speaking in front of people when I was in high school. I was so, even at college, like I didn't love speaking in front of people. Now you can't take a mic from my hand. Like, I will find a mic and a crowd and I will get up there. Look at your biggest struggles that you've overcome. What have you struggled with in the past? What was it that you've overcome? That struggle to strength story is an area of expertise. Right, there are so many things that you have to offer.

Speaker 1:

Ask yourself, what would someone pay to avoid the pain that you went through? What is it? I know I've talked about this, like I was actually talking to one of my clients yesterday about this. I have really bad eczema and it like recently it's been awful, like so bad and it's on my hands and like it even woke me up in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago because it was, and that that doesn't usually happen, but I was so uncomfortable I would have paid whatever it took to get something to stop the itch. Right, you have something too. What would someone pay to avoid the pain or what? What is the pain that you went through that someone would pay for, for the solution?

Speaker 1:

Listen, the key is to stop thinking that you're not good enough or that you don't have something to offer and to start looking at yourself and looking at your experiences that you could help someone else work through. So this is what I want you to do I really want you to take an inventory. I want you to think about this. I want you to think about what skills do you have? What have you overcome? What are all the things Okay? And I want you to shift that mindset from I don't have anything to offer to I do have something to offer and start brainstorming with yourself Like what are some things that I could do? Because, listen, what you have, people need. People need what you have. We just have to package them and make them look pretty and find the people who need it.
